Hello Families!!
We have been in school for a total of 12 days now. Our school routine is becoming easier to follow and the children are adapting somewhat to the very long, warm, days in Kindergarten. They all seem happy and come to school ready to work and share all of the excitement going on in their lives.
We received our Journeys ELA materials on Wednesday. Boy Oh Boy there is a ton of books, flip charts, manuals etc. It has taken me 3 days just to try and organize where to put all these things. I have entered all of your children into the think central portal and you will have access to the stories that I read in class as well as the little books I send home all online. I am hoping to have this program up and running online by October 3. That is also when we will begin using the Journey’s series for our English Language Arts curriculum in conjunction with the Wilson Phonics and Universal Handwriting.
Behaviorally we are still struggling a lot. Many thanks to all that received notes for taking the time to speak with your children and support my efforts here. It truly does help. The kids are doing better over –all. Things I really need you to work on are keeping fingers out of noses, putting shoes laces, shirts, anything in mouths, licking our body parts. Yes, I have to stop story time regularly to ask children to stop licking their legs, arms, and elbows. GERMS, GERMS, GERMS!!! I do not want to tie the shoes of someone who is sucking on the laces. Please practice this at home as well as at school.
The children also need to practice listening. At home can you please work on giving a direction one time and expecting the task to be completed? Believe me, I totally get it, they are 5 and it seems like an impossible task, but really it is not. Your 5 year olds need to learn to be a little independent.
We really accomplished a lot of work this week. We completed our Letters Bb, Tt, and Ff. We are practicing letter identification and letter sounds every day. We began being detectives to try and sound out the words we are trying to write. We have practiced writing the numbers from 1-5.
Next week –Monday is our class trip to Solly Brother Farm. Please dress for the weather. We will be outside the entire time. Our class will return to school for lunch so do not forget send the children’s lunch box to school. If you are a parent attending the trip, you can meet us as the farm. Students only on the bus.
We will be working on the letters Mm & Nn, the sight word –the, and understanding the concept of zero and equal too.
The kids had a great time using the flannel to tell the Story of Creation this week. Our next Religion packet is Jesus welcomes the children.
As always, you know how to reach me if you need me. I do have to apologize for the many emails that I respond to with incorrect spelling or even words….I often use my phone if your email rings in and I’m in need of a new case….the letters are coming up wrong and that wonderful thing called auto correct…OMG the words it replaces . I do apologize, however, I would rather try to get back to you quickly, otherwise I won’t respond until I return to school in the morning.
I’m certain there are a ton of other things I’m forgetting to tell you.
Have a great weekend!!
